Mind Body Wellness
Infertility, and its treatments, can create great stress in both partners. Over the years, Dr. Kustin has found that the best approach is to personally explain all aspects of treatment to his infertile couples. Much of a couple’s anxiety comes from not really understanding their diagnosis and what to expect from their treatments.
This is compounded when infertile couples discuss treatments among themselves, or patients find Internet sites that offer conflicting and often incorrect information.
Stress arises from many areas, from concerns about treatment failure, to feelings of inadequacy, financial issues, and what to do if treatment is not successful. Having a family is tantamount to many couples happiness and feelings of “success”.
Stress in the female is often aggravated by the fertility medications that she must take. Drugs like Lupron and Ganirelix induce a menopausal state with all the accompanying side effects of hot flushes, depression, anxiety, inability to sleep, etc.
We do everything possible to make treatment as "stress free" as possible. Dr. Kustin spends a lot of time with his patients going through these treatments offering guidance, support, and insight on how to cope emotionally with infertility. Two experienced nurses also offer advice about stress reduction, relaxation, and general wellness.
In selected cases, a referral to a health care professional may be appropriate. Our practice strives to treat “people”, not patients, in a supportive and empathetic environment.
